Frequently Asked Questions

  • Counselling is a confidential space to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences with a trained counsellor. It aims to support understanding, emotional awareness, and change at a pace agreed together.

  • Counselling can help with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, stress, low mood, relationship difficulties, identity questions, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm. You do not need a clearly defined problem to begin.

  • Person-centred counselling is a therapeutic approach that focuses on your lived experience and your capacity for growth. It is non-directive, meaning I do not set goals for you or tell you what to do. Instead, the work centres on empathy, acceptance, and authenticity, allowing understanding and change to emerge in a way that is led by you.

  • I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means I work in line with their ethical framework and professional standards.

  • The first session focuses on understanding what has brought you to counselling, what you hope for from it, and whether working together feels appropriate. You are not expected to share anything you are not comfortable with.

  • No preparation is required. Some people find it helpful to reflect beforehand, but this is optional.

  • Sessions last 50 minutes. Frequency is usually weekly to begin with and can be reviewed over time.

  • There is no fixed duration. Some people attend for a short period, while others choose to work longer-term. This is reviewed together.

  • The relationship between counsellor and client is vital. It is common to use the first few sessions to get a sense of whether working together feels safe and helpful. If it does not feel like the right fit, this can be discussed openly.

  • Yes. Counselling is a collaborative process. You are encouraged to raise questions, disagreements, or concerns about the work or the process at any point.

  • Yes. Counselling can be a space to explore neurodivergence, lived experience, and identity in a respectful and non-pathologising way.

  • Sessions are currently offered online. In-person sessions will be available once an appropriate space is in place. Details about format are confirmed at the point of booking.

  • Yes. Everything you share in counselling is treated as confidential. Confidentiality may only be broken where there is a serious risk of harm to you or others, or where I am legally required to disclose information. Where possible, this would be discussed with you first.

  • The fee is £60 per 50-minute session. Payment arrangements are agreed in advance and set out in the working agreement.

  • Yes. You can choose to pause or end counselling at any point. Planned endings are encouraged where possible and are discussed openly.
